Dear Aqaurist,
President's
Message
The Giant Spring Auction
was a huge party for everyone. Over 220 bags of fish, corals
and plants were offered, also there were 4, yes 4 aquariums
offered 3, 55 gallon tanks and a 29 gallon tank, these included
tops and stands, along with aquarium light fixtures and many
other interesting items. Our winner for the main door prize
[a 6 gallon Eclipse aquarium] went to Linda Baker. At this event
we tried something new for our guests - live and frozen food.
Many left for the evening with purchases of grindel worms, confused
beetles, vestigial winged fruit flies, live blackworms and tubaflex,
microworms, vinegar eels, red wiggler worms, nightcrawler worms,
live daphnia, live baby brine shrimp. The frozen foods included
bloodworms, mysis shrimp, daphnia, baby brine shrimp, beefheart,
rotifers, plankton, krill and brine shrimp. Whatever is available
will be brought t the June event so come down and fill up on
good, nutritious food, fish food that is!
Our June event will bring
in a renowned expert in the world of marine aquarium lighting.
Tullio DellAquilla and his topic for the evening is "Advanced
Lighting Technologies For Aquariums". This event will be
held on June 13 at 7:30 PM at the Education Hall of the NY Aquarium.
Tullio has just come from the IMAC Conference in Chicago; perhaps
he will discuss some of the new inventions and more creative
methods of technologies in use today. There will be an auction
of propagated corals and marine fish as well as freshwater fish
and plants. Come and enjoy a beautiful evening with the BAS
family.
This will be our final event
of the season. This means we will be voting on a new slate of
Officers and Board members. This will be a perfect opportunity
to volunteer your valuable time and resources to help our club.
We are always in need of sincere and dedicated people to help
us run and manage the Brooklyn Aquarium Society. If anyone is
interested please let me know as soon as possible so I can have
you listed on the ballots.
If you or another member of BAS wants to run for a particular
Officers position or want to be on the Board you can nominate
yourself or someone else. The only criteria are that you are
a member in good standing and have been a member for greater
than 6 months. So please, if you want to help and you share
an interest in running the Society please come forward so I
can enter your name for the June elections.
I am asking for your help
and support. If you want to see different speakers or try different
things please let me know. The elected officials of the Brooklyn
Aquarium Society are here to serve YOU! Please let us know what
you want and why you want it would be helpful also.
For more info please call
our new and improved BAS Hotline at (718) 837-4455, or visit
our NEW website at WWW.BROOKLYNAQUARIUMSOCIETY.ORG.
On a more personal note
- This is your club and we are looking for interested and helpful
members to participate! Any member who desires to attend a Board
meeting, which are held at the Education Center of the New York
Aquarium on the 1st Friday of the month, please notify me at
(718) 238-1792 by the Tuesday previous to the meeting.
